Percentages, decimals and fractions are three notations for one idea, and switching between them fluently is what makes the whole topic feel small.
The three quantities in any percentage question are the part, the whole and the rate, and every question gives two of them. Identifying which two is most of the work.
This sheet uses whole numbers up to 100 with the common percentages, chosen so that the arithmetic can be done mentally by a child who knows the benchmark percentages, which is why a line such as 20% of 30 turns up.
Work of this kind is commonly aligned with the ratio and proportional relationships strand for grade 6; schools outside the US meet the same skill at roughly the same age, which is why these 6th grade percent worksheets travel well.

Here is one worked through. 25% of 40 gives 10. If your child arrives somewhere other than 10 on 25% of 40, look at the working rather than the answer: nearly every wrong result comes from a skipped step, not an unknown fact.
The item 25% of 40 is worth doing slowly. The answer to 25% of 40 is 10, and the route to it is the route every other problem on this sheet takes — which is why the sheet has 20 of them rather than one.
